The girl behind the camera
Erin Griffin
As a 90's baby, I was always shooting film and playing with my Grandfathers cameras. Eventually those cameras became mine and everything clicked. I grew up in New England bringing them to the Red Sox games, capturing my baby cousin after losing a tooth, or annoyingly ,my younger brother. At the age of 12 I went to my first photography "camp" at MassArt. It was my first real experience in a dark room, getting used to the red light and learning to do things in the dark with only my sense of touch and hearing. I dragged a 4x5 camera across Boston with my camp buddy because that's all we could do. Those memories really stuck with and I asked for dark room for my birthday one year...my dad helped me build it and to this day I still have all the equipment. One day in my home I will have another one but for now, my apartment will have to wait. As I grew up I pursued graphic design for a while, went to college and was able to practice film and design. The past 25 years I have spent photographing my life, about 5 years ago I starting documenting others.
